AK40-10 V3.0 KV170 robotic actuator, 1.3 Nm rated and 4.1 Nm peak torque. 435 rpm no-load speed, 190 g.
The AK40-10 V3.0 is a lightweight robotic actuator that packs a brushless motor, a 10:1 planetary gearbox and the driver board into a single module 53 mm in diameter and 40.2 mm long. At 190 g and 435 rpm no-load speed, it is the lightest and fastest member of the compact AK V3.0 group (AK40-10, AK45-10 and AK45-36). Thanks to its dual encoder design, single-turn absolute position is kept after power loss, so the joint does not need homing at startup.
Typical uses include humanoid robot neck, wrist and finger joints that carry light loads but must move quickly, lightweight robot arms, and education and R&D prototypes.
The AK40-10 V3.0 delivers 1.3 Nm continuous and 4.1 Nm peak torque. For example, a 0.5 kg load at the end of a 15 cm arm needs about 0.74 Nm of static torque (0.5 × 9.81 × 0.15). That load stays within the actuator's rated torque.
It runs on 24 V with a maximum continuous power of 50 W. The output bearing has a dynamic load rating of 2,810 N and a static load rating of 2,760 N. If you need to carry the same load on a longer arm, the AK45-10 V3.0 with 2.5 Nm rated torque may be a better fit.
Is the driver included?
Yes. The driver board, both encoders and the planetary gearbox are inside the housing. The box includes a power and CAN cable and a serial communication cable.
How is it different from the previous AK40-10?
V3.0 has dual encoders and remembers its single-turn absolute position after power loss. Torque and speed figures are the same. The V3.0 is 5 g heavier and 3.2 mm longer than the previous version.
How much gearbox backlash is there?
According to the manufacturer, 18 arcminutes, or about 0.3 degrees.
Can it be turned by hand?
Yes. Backdrive torque is about 0.06 Nm, so the joint turns very easily by hand when unpowered.
Box size 89 x 91 x 73 mm.
To configure and test the actuator from a computer, see the R-LINK V3.0 USB to CAN adapter.

In the AK and AKH series actuators the driver board is built into the motor and communicates over CAN. The AKE series and the frameless RI and RO series motors need an external FOC driver. The R-Link and S-Link interfaces are for setup and debugging, and we can support you during installation.
