The RI85-PH is a frameless inrunner torque motor with a potted design. It is built to run stably under demanding thermal conditions.

Is it enough for your project?

The RI85-PH is a frameless torque motor. The bearing, encoder and driver are part of your design. It delivers 2 Nm continuous and 5 Nm peak torque. Because its windings are fully encapsulated in potting compound, it resists moisture, vibration and high temperatures better than standard frameless motors. The 52 mm center bore leaves plenty of room for cables and shafts.

In robot joints it is usually paired with a gearbox. For example, with a 50:1 harmonic drive you get about 100 Nm of continuous torque at the output, excluding losses. Its operating range of -20 to 85 °C leaves a safe margin in closed joint housings that run hot.

How it compares to similar models

• RI80 V2.0 KV75. An unpotted model of the same weight, with 1.45 Nm rated torque and a 40.5 mm center bore.
• RI75-PH KV70. The model below with the same potted body, with 1.2 Nm rated torque and weighing 348 g.
• RI115-PH KV40. The largest model in the series, with 5.5 Nm rated torque and a 74 mm center bore. It weighs 1,108 g.

Frequently asked questions

Is the driver included?

No. With frameless motors the driver, encoder and bearing are chosen by the user. You need a 48 V FOC driver with Hall input that can deliver at least 16 A continuous.

What is the difference between the connector and soldered versions?

The connector version is 32 mm long and the version with directly soldered leads is 31.5 mm. Electrical values are the same. Our technical team can tell you which version is in stock.

Which sensors does it have?

Hall sensors and a temperature sensor are inside the motor and provide position and temperature feedback.

What is its no-load speed?

About 4,080 rpm at 48 V. At rated load the speed drops to about 3,042 rpm.

Integration

Frameless motors are designed in by the user together with the flange, bearing, encoder and driver. The stator mounts to the fixed structure and the rotor to the rotating shaft. Because this leaves the whole mechanical interface to the designer, intermediate transmission parts such as gears or belts are not needed.
