The RO60 Lite is the lightweight outrunner model in the series. It suits designs where weight is critical.

Key features

• Ultra-low cogging torque. Roughly halved compared with motors in its class, so low-speed rotation is noticeably smoother.
• Wide hollow shaft. Plenty of room at the center for cables and shaft integration.
• Interchangeable shaft. By changing the shaft, the same motor fits different mechanical interfaces.
• Lightweight sensorless design. There are no Hall or temperature sensors, which saves weight and thickness. For use with sensors, the Standard version is the better choice.

Typical applications include exoskeletons, collaborative robot arms, medical devices and aerospace applications.

Is it enough for your project?

The RO60 Lite is a frameless torque motor. The bearing, encoder and driver are part of your design. It delivers 0.8 Nm continuous and 2.4 Nm peak torque from a body only 15 mm tall and weighing 195 g.

This size makes it a good fit for finger and wrist joints, small gimbal axes and teams designing their own mini actuator. If you need more torque, the motor is paired with a gearbox. For example, with a 10:1 planetary gearbox you get about 8 Nm of continuous torque at the output, excluding losses.

How it compares to similar models

• RO60 KV115. Same torque and speed values, weighs 248 g and is 23 mm tall. Its rotor inertia is higher (1,161 g·cm²).
• RO80 Lite KV105. A higher class with 1.3 Nm rated and 4 Nm peak torque, weighing 265 g and 17.7 mm tall.
• RI60 KV120. An inrunner alternative with 0.57 Nm rated torque, 155.9 g and a 30 mm center bore.

Frequently asked questions

Is the driver included?

No. With frameless motors the driver, encoder and bearing are chosen by the user. You need a 48 V FOC driver that can deliver at least 8.5 A continuous and can work with an external encoder or sensorless.

What is its torque constant?

Kt is about 0.094 Nm/A. Around 8.5 A of phase current is needed for the 0.8 Nm rated torque.

Which sensors does it have?

The Lite version has no Hall or temperature sensors. Position comes from an external encoder or from sensorless FOC. If you need a Hall sensor, choose the Standard version.

What is its no-load speed?

About 5,520 rpm at 48 V. At rated load the speed drops to about 4,200 rpm.

Integration

In frameless outrunner motors the rotor turns on the outside, which gives more torque at the same diameter. The flange, bearing, encoder and driver are designed by the user. Thanks to the wide hollow shaft, cables can pass along the axis.
