The RO100 Lite is the lightweight version of the RO100. It has a highly integrated frameless outrunner architecture.

Key features

• Ultra-low cogging torque. Roughly halved compared with motors in its class, so low-speed rotation is noticeably smoother.
• Wide hollow shaft. Plenty of room at the center for cables and shaft integration.
• Interchangeable shaft. By changing the shaft, the same motor fits different mechanical interfaces.
• Lightweight sensorless design. There are no Hall or temperature sensors, which saves weight and thickness. For use with sensors, the Standard version is the better choice.

Is it enough for your project?

The RO100 Lite is a frameless torque motor. The bearing, encoder and driver are part of your design. It delivers the same 4 Nm continuous and 12 Nm peak torque as the standard RO100, at 525 g and 28 mm tall.

It is chosen for exoskeleton and wearable robot joints, where weight and axial length are critical. If you need more torque, the motor is paired with a gearbox. For example, with a 30:1 gearbox you get about 120 Nm of continuous torque at the output, excluding losses.

How it compares to similar models

• RO100 KV55. Same torque and speed values, weighs 710 g and is 36.2 mm tall. Its rotor inertia is higher (8,700 g·cm²).
• RO80 Lite KV105. A lower class with 1.3 Nm rated and 4 Nm peak torque, and much thinner at 265 g and 17.7 mm tall.
• RI115-PH KV40. An inrunner alternative with 5.5 Nm rated torque, but it weighs 1,108 g.

Frequently asked questions

Is the driver included?

No. With frameless motors the driver, encoder and bearing are chosen by the user. You need a 48 V FOC driver that can deliver at least 20 A continuous and can work with an external encoder or sensorless.

What is its torque constant?

Kt is about 0.2 Nm/A. Around 20 A of phase current is needed for the 4 Nm rated torque.

Which sensors does it have?

The Lite version has no Hall or temperature sensors. Position comes from an external encoder or from sensorless FOC. If you need a Hall sensor, choose the Standard version.

What insulation class does it have?

Class F, the windings are insulated for up to 155 °C.

Integration

In frameless outrunner motors the rotor turns on the outside, which gives more torque at the same diameter. The flange, bearing, encoder and driver are designed by the user. Thanks to the wide hollow shaft, cables can pass along the axis.
